Before joining Exeter College, I worked in the Outreach team at the University of Essex, supporting students across Essex, Suffolk, and London. My journey into Access and Outreach began during my part-time PhD in History (2014–2022), when I took on the role of PhD Outreach Tutor. This experience allowed me to broaden my own teaching practice and work directly with students from disadvantaged areas in Essex. Alongside my doctoral studies, I taught at Colchester Institute, where I led the Access to HE Diploma (English) and taught GCSE English. Supporting students in further education, as well as those in secondary schools through outreach, deepened my understanding of the disadvantage gap and strengthened my commitment to widening participation—ultimately guiding my move into Access and Outreach work full-time.
Since completing my PGCE at the University of Sussex (2011–2013), I’ve taught a wide range of learners—from secondary school pupils and adult learners to undergraduates—across Essex and West Sussex. I’m excited to bring this breadth of experience to my role as Access and Outreach Manager at Exeter College.
